  I was born and raised on Hilton Head where I grew up around sports, home cooking and good friends. I attended Elon University and earned a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and cinema. During my senior year I searched the job market as a blossoming screenwriter, found it floundering, and came to the conclusion that I liked and was good at three things; cooking, eating, and writing. Thus a food writer was born. After graduating from Elon in May, I relocated to Charleston to start culinary school at the Culinary Institute of Charleston. I’m excited to be writing about our great city and the amazing cuisine that makes it so amazing.

  I grew up in Michigan (yes, I know another yankee) - but give me some credit as I've lived in Charleston now for 16 years. I came here on vacation to visit a friend and decided to stay - best decision ever, as I discover new things I like about this area all the time. I am a big sports fan, love the water (good thing living here, huh?) and hanging out with my friends/family. When I first moved here, I couldn't believe all of the different events that take place every weekend throughout the entire year, all over the Lowcountry. I mean, a festive just to celebrate Grits - how great is that, only in the South!  Every year seems to bring more events/festivals and things to do - so I thought what better thing to do than to note some of the local events/happenings that are going on each week.

  Hi. My name is Amy Piazza and “In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definition(s)” I am a foodie. I am also a fan of all things creative (including John Hughes films). I was born and raised just outside of Washington D.C., graduated from Bowie High School in Maryland attempted college in Southern Maryland and decided that the corn fields and townies weren’t for me so I came to Charleston. I graduated from C of C in 1997 and went back to D.C to work for about 5 years before I had to come back the Holy City. When I’m not obsessing about food and drink or running this web site – I’m a senior web technologist for AOL. I suppose all of this makes me a “non-native Charlestonian” but at least I’m not from Ohio or Michigan.

• Ruth Metzger - The Lunch Lady
  I am recently retired from the non-profit world where I planned meetings and developed adult continuing education programs for associations in the Washington D.C. area. Specifically for the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA). I am currently a consultant for BOMA and other groups and I do a little wedding/event/meeting planning on the side. I live in West Ashley with my husband, the retired rocket scientist, and my two cats kindly donated to me by my daughter and son.
